A New Friend

Shelton looked at the kids, then turned his attention to Angel.

"How come you didn't speak to him about it?" Shelton asked.

"She was there." Angel said.

Brianna slowly calmed and wiped her teary eyes.

"You better now babe?" Angel asked.

Brianna nodded.

Angel placed Brianna back down on the floor and Brianna headed back upstairs.

"Oh right... But you're planning on doing it soon right?" Shelton asked.

"Tomorrow." Angel said.

"Ooo, and you're gonna keep me updated right?" Shelton said with a cheesy grin.

"Yes Shelton, as a matter of fact I'll call you right after I tell him." Angel said.

"Good, good." Shelton said smiling.

"How you feeling about it all?" he went on.

"Nervous." Angel said.

"Haha, aww... you'll do great." Shelton said.

"I'm just afraid he won't feel the same." Angel said.

"I dont know if I can take it if he doesn't." Angel confessed.

"It's a tricky situation, but you don't want to look back and think what should of been do you?" Shelton said, trying to reassure Angel.

Angel shook her head.

"No." Angel said.

"Good. Just try to think positive." Shelton said.

Angel nodded.

Angel turned to look when she felt Lily tap her side.

"Yes Lily?" Angel asked.

"Sing for me mommy!" Lily said. "Please?" Lily asked. Lily held her mother's gutair out to her.

"If Shelton wants to hear me." Angel said.

"Of course... Wait, you can sing?" Shelton said looking at Angel.

"I sing, play gutair and piano and keyboard." Angel said.

"Wow, multi-talented then huh?" Shelton said smiling.

"So we gonna hear this voice of yours then or what?" he asked still smiling.

"Ten time Vocal State Champion." Angel bragged.

"Haha, seriously?" Shelton said in anticipation, sitting forward in the chair.

Angel nodded.

"All right, Lilybug, what do you want me to sing for you?" Angel asked.

"The one you said reminds you of Uncle Cody." Lily said.

Angel blushed a little as she ajusted her gutair on her shoulder.

She smiled as she began to play I'd Lie by Taylor Swift.

I don’t think that passenger seat

Angel smiled.

"Okay Lilybug, anything else?" Angel asked.

Lily nodded as she placed one of her mother's backing tracks in the CD player.

Angel smiled, knowing exactly what two tracks were there, she began.

"Haha, nice." Shelton clapped.

Angel sighed.

"This one's gonna be hard." Angel sai.

She strummed her gutair as the backing track began.

It was two weeks after the day she turned 18
all dressed in white, going to the church that night
She had his box of letters in the passenger seat,
six pence in her shoe
something borrowed something *blue*
and when the church doors opened up wide she put her veil down trying to hide the tears oh
she just couldn’t believe it
she heard the trumpets from the military band and the flowers fell out of her hands

then they handed her a folded up flag and

and then guns rang one last shot and it felt like a bullet in her heart
